Beach Bucket List – Top Thing To Do At The Beach
The beach is great all year round but in England it is especially popular during the summer months. This beach bucket list guide with give you plenty of ideas and inspiration of the top things to do at the beach, regardless of what time of year it is.
Have a Picnic
One of the simplest pleasures and a great thing to to do at the beach is have a picnic. You could go for a simple packed lunch vibe or you go all out with salads, mezzes and desserts. Ensure your food is kept nice and cold and watch out for the sand!
Collect Shells
Collecting shells, rocks, sea glass and driftwood certainly couldn’t be missed off the beach bucket list. In some beach locations you may even find some fossils!
Swim in the Sea
You need to at least paddle your feet when visiting the beach but for those of use who can brave the cold water, why not go for a swim. Swimming in the sea can be done all year round and in some ares they have a Christmas Day tradition of having a dip in the cold water.
Eat Fish and Chips
One of the best delicacies in local coastal towns and villages is fish and chips. Why not treat yourself, sit on the sand, or along a pier or harbour and enjoy the view. Just keep a watch out for the hungry seagulls.
Build Sandcastles
Children and adults alike can enjoy the fun of building sandcastles. And this was a suggestion I couldn’t possibly miss off the beach bucket list. Get out the buckets and spades or use your hands to make creative forts with motes and shell gardens.
Go Rock Pooling
One of my favourite items on the beach bucket list. Rock pooling takes me back to my own beach days as a child in Cornwall. Take your buckets and nets, explore the rock pools and puddles and see what creatures you can find. Make sure you set them all free once you have finished though.
Sunbathe
Take the opportunity to relax and enjoy the warmth of the sun whilst at the beach. A towel or beach chair will do along with plenty of sunscreen, a hat and a good book.
Watch the Sun Rise or Set
You can enjoy some really spectacular views from the beach at sunrise or sunset. Set your clocks and make sure you get there with plenty of time to take in the sky.
Fly a Kite
When the beach is empty and the winds are up, flying a kite is really good fun for all ages.
Go Crabbing
Crabbing is a fun game that can be done along a harbour or pier and kits can often be purchased from local shops. All you need is a hook, a line, some bate and a bucket of water. Have a competition to see who can catch the biggest crab. Make sure you release them all back into the sea once you are finished.
Look for Wales and Dolphins
Even along the British coastline wales and dolphins can sometimes be spotted. In areas that this is more frequent there might be local boat tours to give you a better chance at seeing these amazing creatures.
Go Surfing
A fun activity that can be done at certain beaches across the globe and including some in the UK. In many locations where surfing is popular you can take classes to learn how to surf. Why not try and catch some waves.
Climb the Sand Dunes
Climbing sand dunes can be an adventure in itself and we often did this at the end of the day before heading back to the car. At some beach they may even have dedicated trails that you can follow.
Enjoy an Ice Cream
The perfect opportunity to indulge in a sweet treat. Ice cream vans are often dotted along the coast with a vast array of flavours and types.
Play a Sport
Most beaches are great places to play sports, especially if they are quite empty which will usually be in the colder months. Some game suggests are:
- Frisbee
- Cricket
- Volleyball
- Catch
- Swing ball
Explore a Cave
For the braver ones, exploring beach caves can be great fun. Some beaches have cave tours which go deep inside the rock formations.
I hope this list gives you plenty of ideas for your next beach trip. What can you already tick off and what are you excited to try out? For other summer related activities why not check out my July Bucket List
