Miami Bucket List and Visitor Guide

I have really been looking forward to creating my Miami Bucket List for you all. Miami really has a special place in my heart. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I visited and I quickly fell in love. Everything about it from the weather, the vibe and atmosphere, to the people and the food. I just love it all and it is currently my number one, of my favourite places I have visited. So here is my Miami Bucket List. Have fun with it!

Visit Miami Beach

Miami beach is actually a city in Miami and an island. It is connected to main land Miami by bridges and is home to many of my Miami Bucket List suggestions. Packed with thins to see and do, you’ll very quickly get a feeling of what Miami is all about once you arrive.

Visit South Beach

South Beach is possibly one of the most well known neighborhoods in Miami. Vibrant and full of life, it has some of the best beaches around, glittering night life and plenty of wonderful art deco architecture.

Drive Down Ocean Drive

Full of palm trees, stunning art deco buildings, fantastic restaurants and shops, iconic lights and flashy cars going by. Ocean Drive is probably Miami’s most famous streets and a must visit for anyone visiting.

Take an Art Deco Walking Tour

If you want to get a real feel for the vintage Miami vibe then Art Deco Walking Tours could be for you. The Miami Art Deco district is home to hundreds of historic buildings that are classed as Art Deco and most tours usually last about 90 minutes, taking place in the mornings.

Spot the Lifeguard Towers

The lifeguard towers on Miami Beach and South Beach are some of Miami’s most iconic things to see. Designed by architect William Lane after hurricane Andrew destroyed some of the previous lifeguard stands. Influenced by a mix of art deco architecture and Caribbean culture with the wonderful colourways and interesting shapes.

You can easily spend an afternoon walking the beaches and touring each unique design.

Go for a Swim in the Venetian Pool

What was a former rock quarry is now an iconic Miami destination in the city of Coral Gabels. With a Mediterranean vibe and surrounded with palm trees this is good place to cool off from the Florida heat.

Visit Wynwood Walls

This one is a must for your Miami Bucket List. Another one for the art and design lovers, Wynwood Walls is now a large collection of statement art produced by artists from around the globe and celebrates street art and graffiti. This area which was originally an old warehouse district is now teaming with art, music, shops and just generally buzzing with life. And to make it even better, entrance is free.

Go Deep Sea Fishing

If you want something a little different and off land why don’t you give deep sea fishing a go? There are plenty of fishing charters to choose from in Miami and most cater for groups.

Visit the Design District

If you love to shopping and design then this is an area of Miami you are going to LOVE! With over 120 flagship stores including the likes of Fendi and Balenciaga you can literally shop until you drop. The Miami Design District is also home to three art exhibitions, the Locust Project, Institute of Contemporary Art and the de la Cruz Collection.

Eat Cuban Food

There is a real Cuban influence in Miami and definitely when it comes to food. There are endless Cuban restaurant options so you can really get stuck in. I’d recommend trying a traditional Cuban Sandwich, Arroz con Pollo which is a chicken and rice dish and Pastelito which is a puff pastry filled with a sweet filling.

Trying out the culinary delights should definitely be on your bucket list

Visit Little Havana

Whilst we are on the topic of Cuban influence, Little Havana is a must visit when in Miami. The community is mainly Latino with Spanish being the main language spoken. You’ll not only get authentic Cuban food in this neighbourhood but there are art galleries to visit, organised tours to join and giant rooster statues to keep an eye out for.

Look out for the brightly coloured Roosters in Little Havana

Visit Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

With 83 acres of nature and science to explore, Fairchild Botanic garden is a tropical jungle to add to your Miami Bucket List. Opened in 1938 by Dr David Fairchild, an avid plant collector who traveled the world in search for useful and exotic plants.

Visit Miami’s Seaquarium

See sea lions, turtles, dolphins, penguins and a whole lot more at Florida’s best aquarium. Whilst there you will also learn about marine animal care, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation.

Visit Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

Located in Biscayne bay Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is an estate is home to many stunning art collections both inside the house and in the 10 acres of formal gardens. Spend an afternoon walking through the magnificent rooms and gardens whilst learning about the buildings history and preservation.

And that concludes my Miami Bucket List. Creating this blog post has made we want to go back so badly so I’ll be booking a flight soon!
